National Doughnut Day!

Yes it is!  How do you choose your doughnut?  I think it depends on which part of the country you are living.  Going back to my roots, I grew up with Krispy Kreme doughnuts every Sunday morning after Mass.  I am NOT exaggerating!  Want a money making fundraiser for your cause? They are currently celebrating 75 years in business!  Yes, that means they began in 1937 in a building that is now historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  With the odors of the cooking doughnuts in the air, a hole was made in the building and the doughnuts were sold to the people on the sidewalks.
If you see the famous light lit up, you better stop!

If you are from New Orleans, you probably grew up with Beignets....Today I have a quick and VERY easy beignet recipe you can make at home, and yes it is delicious.

Using a container of refrigerator biscuits---for instance:
Pillsbury Simply Biscuits

Cut each biscuit into 4 pieces
Place  about 2 inches of vegetable oil in skillet on stove and heat
Place each piece in hot oil and fry on each side for one minute (depends on how hot the oil is)turning over until brown on both sides. 
Place cooked beignets in paper bag with confectioner sugar and shake to remove excess oil.
Place on plate and sprinkle with confectioner sugar.

Serves up best with Hot Cocoa.  How about some Nutella Hot Cocoa?
